Among the Thugs, by Bill BufordThree games in a week—and then three weeks before the next game. That’s really no way to start a season. Has the Barclays Premier League season really started? Those first few games seem like a dream to me now. At any rate, other than watch World Cup qualifiers (take that, El Tri!), there really hasn’t been anything for me to do except train my AYSO teams and organize my library of soccer books.

Speaking of the latter, I’ve started a page with my reading recommendations. You’ll notice glaring omissions, such as David Winner’s Brilliant Orange (I still mean to read it, and I’ve read his forthcoming one, if that counts for anything) and Joe McGinniss’ The Miracle of Castel di Sangro (also on my list).

Anything else I’ve missed? Your recommendations are welcome.
